Instructions for On-site COVID 19 Rapid Testing

Hello! This is Dr. McBeth of Beverly Hills DRx Concierge. I’m a board-certified emergency medicine physician and graduate of Dartmouth College and Dartmouth Medical School, recently renamed the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. Currently, we are doing COVID rapid testing using the BD Veritor Plus analyzer which has been around for years, performing influenza, Streptococcus B, RSV, rapid tests for example but, now has received FDA emergency use authorization for COVID 19. This is very exciting and awesome because it means you can get results at your home, office, hotel, or film production site for sample, in 15 minutes. This device as an overall percentage agreement of 98% when the patients tested have had COVID related symptoms for 0-5 days. It helps to determine if you actually have SARS-CoV-2 viral material within your body at the time of the test.

Let’s go over what to expect when we come to your location to perform this same day test.

I will be bringing with me the diagnostic analyzer which is completely portable for use at the patient’s point of care. However, we will need the following from you:

  • We request that everyone wears a mask or facial covering, as we will also arrive wearing masks, shields, eye covering, etc.
  • We will call prior to the visit to inquire about your symptoms, when they first started, and let you know my ETA
  • In order to ensure the safety of everyone, we perform the collection of the test in open air; that is on a patio, courtyard, driveway, or even the garage with an open door, etc.; the area should be in the shade and without excessive wind, are extreme temperature changes.
  • We need a clean table top with access to an electrical outlet, preferably.
  • We ask that you keep your pets or small children away from the testing platform.
  • We collect the specimen from your nose by inserting a Q-tip swab about 1 inch into each nostril and rotating it within each side 5 times to collect the nasal secretions. This is not a painful process although, some consider it to be anxiety provoking or uncomfortable. Sometimes, this may induce tearing or a sneezing reflex which is why we do this in open air and while using PPE or personal protective equipment.
  • The results should be available in about 15 minutes. Hopefully, everyone will be all negative!
  • We will email you a document stating what the result was, if you require this for your work or your primary physician, for example.
